What's being taught in our schools today...

"Equity supersedes the notion of equality, where all are treated the same"

RESOLUTION NO. 1901: School Board Commitment to Equity and Anti-Racism (June 2020) - During the COVID pandemic, while kids were out of school and parents struggling to manage, this was the School Board's priority. (PDF with Board signatures)

"...requires that this systemic bias and institutional racism be dismantled, to promote equity [...] The Bend-La Pine Schools Board of Directors and staff...committing our board to holding diversity, equity, and inclusion at the center of all conversations moving forward."

Be informed.

Been hearing a lot about indoctrination and too much politics in the classroom? Unfortunately, this isn't something new. It's a fulfillment of decades of academic bias and ideological intolerance. But don't take anyone's word for it, read about it for yourself.

The following compilation of research, news stories, essays, op-eds and videos are just a small summary of recent references.

Take a few minutes just to scroll the headlines and you'll have a better understanding of what the current national controversy is about. Many parents are waking up to what's being taught in the schools and they find it objectionable. As taxpayers, they have the right to fight it.

Politics and ideological agendas for social-cultural transformation should not be part of curriculum, particularly for the early grades. It's impossible for children to process such instruction fairly without a solid foundation of historical knowledge, critical thinking and developed analytic skills. If teachers and students want to debate "theory", it should be reserved for colleges & universities which is where this all began.

What is Critical Race Theory?

Watch the short video by PragerU

Critical race theory teaches that all members of "minoritized" racial groups are victims of a system rigged against them.

Critical race theory (CRT) begins from the assumption that racism is built into all of America’s institutions. Critical race theorists “hold that the law and legal institutions in the United States are inherently racist insofar as they function to create and maintain social, economic, and political inequalities between whites and nonwhites, especially African Americans.”

CRT teaches that members of a "minoritized" racial group are victims of a system that is rigged against them. Those born into "privileged" races are inherently exploiters of minorities.

View source

Critical race theory teaches that American institutions are plagued by so-called “systemic racism.” CRT “recognizes that racism is codified in law, embedded in structures, and woven into public policy,” the American Bar Association explains. “CRT rejects claims of meritocracy or ‘colorblindness.’ CRT recognizes that it is the systemic nature of racism that bears primary responsibility for reproducing racial inequality.”

Human beings were not preoccupied with race until the 16th century, when Europeans began to explore and then colonize other parts of the world. Drawing distinctions between the races reached its peak in the 19th century with the widespread use of slave labor in North and South America.

Critical race theory is a race-based offshoot of Marxism invented in American academia.

Critical race theory (CRT) is a uniquely American invention that began to take shape in Harvard Law School in the 1970s.

View source

Among the theorists promoting its concepts in the mid-1970s were Derrick Bell, Alan Freeman, and Richard Delgado, who were critical of the Civil Rights movement’s “dangerously slow progress.”

View source

CRT is a race-based offshoot of critical theory, which is a Marxist-inspired movement in social and political philosophy that maintains that one of the primary goals of philosophy is “to understand and to help overcome the social structures through which people are dominated and oppressed.

View source

Faced with the massive failure of communist political regimes and the widespread unpopularity of Marxism in America, left-wing scholars transposed Marxist theories about class to theories about race. “[R]ather than abandon their political project, Marxist scholars in the West simply adapted their revolutionary theory to the social and racial unrest of the 1960s,” writes Christopher Rufo. “Abandoning Marx’s economic dialectic of capitalists and workers, they substituted race for class and sought to create a revolutionary coalition of the dispossessed based on racial and ethnic categories.”

Critical race theory seeks to dismantle capitalism and undermine American constitutional principles.

One of the key proponents of critical race theory, Ibram X. Kendi, has made clear that one of the essential goals of CRT is to dismantle capitalism. “The origins of capitalism cannot be separated from the origins of racism,” said Kendi. “The life of racism cannot be separated from the life of capitalism, and vice versa. When you think about, for instance, the slave trade, which was critical in the accumulation of wealth in Europe, that was fundamentally a set of racist policies. When you think of colonialism, or even slavery, these are fundamentally a relationship between racism and capitalism, which was essential to its emergence. And so, I think in order to truly be antiracist, you also have to truly be anti-capitalist, as I write in the book. And in order to truly be anti-capitalist, you have to be antiracist, because they’re interrelated.”

Critical race theory rejects the core tenets of the American, classically liberal, Judeo-Christian value system. It turns the bedrock American idea upside down, as summarized by Richard Delgado and Jean Stefancic, two leading proponents of CRT: "Critical Race Theory questions the very foundations of the liberal order, including equality theory, legal reasoning, Enlightenment rationalism, and the neutral principles of constitutional law" (Critical Race Theory: An Introduction, p. 3).

The New York Times’ “1619 Project,” a product of critical race theorists, attempts to inextricably tie America’s capitalist economic system to slavery.

View source

Critical race theory is not a continuation of the civil rights movement—it’s a repudiation of it.

Critical race theory arose in part out of frustration with the “dangerously slow progress” of the civil rights movement.

View source

Critical race theorists maintain that America has been defined since its founding by racism and that American racism has never truly diminished. To these theorists, Martin Luther King Jr. was both wrong in his goals and naïve in his view of Americans’ abilities to judge people by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin. The CRT-based “1619 Project” suggests that the U.S. cannot overcome the “original sin” of slavery and claims that “nearly everything that has truly made America exceptional” grew out of slavery and racism.

View source

Critical race theorists “explicitly reject equality — the principle proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, defended in the Civil War, and codified into law with the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” writes Christopher Rufo. “To them, equality represents ‘mere nondiscrimination’ and provides ‘camouflage’ for white supremacy, patriarchy, and oppression.”

View source

Black Americans have heroically fought for their rights, often against great odds. Joining them in the fight for racial equality over the decades has been a vast number of white people. One key example: the U.S. Senate that passed the landmark Civil Rights Act in 1964 contained 98 whites and two men of color, both Asians.

Funding higher education now means subsidizing the political activists who have hijacked it.

Though most Americans aren’t happy about this, academia has no qualms. No matter how many times the lack of intellectual diversity on politicized, one-party campuses is decried as unhealthy and educationally ruinous, the campuses won’t listen. There was once internal debate about higher education’s direction between traditional academic scholars and radical political activists, but that debate is long over. The activists, now firmly in control, have no interest in what the dwindling ranks of scholars have to say.
